The 2009 Diocesan Assembly will be held at the Protection of the Holy Virgin Church in Santa Rosa, CA, on October 15-16. The theme of the Assembly will be “OCA Strategic Planning.”

The OCA is undertaking a strategic planning project, aimed at revising the Statute to better reflect the Church’s mission in North America. Every aspect of church life is on the table: the role of the Holy Synod, of the Metropolitan, of the Dioceses, of the Metropolitan Council, of the central church administration, of the ecclesiology of the church, of how the central church is funded, etc. Participation from throughout the church is necessary for this project to be successful. Our Diocesan Assembly will provide the forum for input from the Diocese.

A Hierarchical Liturgy will give Delegates and Observers the opportunity to pray together. Reports from around the Diocese will also be received, and the Annual Diocesan Budget adopted.

On the Saturday morning, October 17, following the Friday conclusion of the Assembly, Holy Trinity Cathedral in San Francisco will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Church building (the parish itself, the first Orthodox parish in America outside of Alaska, was founded in 1867). All those attending the Assembly are encouraged to attend.
