Many reached out to say they would like to come, or that they couldn't come but could we please include their babies in prayer, others asked if they may spread the word of this gathering to friends and relatives who have experienced loss so they can submit names as well. In truth, everyone knows someone who has experienced miscarriage or infant loss. They were all welcome to participate.</p> <p>Women began gathering at 3:00 pm and had tea and cake until everyone was there. There were some books for people to browse, such as Naming the Child, by Jenny Schroedel, Walking the Labyrinth of my Heart, by Dianna Vagianos Armentrout, Expecting Adam, by Martha Beck, Becoming a Healing Presence, by Albert Rossi, and Intimate Death, by Marie de Hennezel. We sat in a circle and each woman was given a sprig of rosemary (rosemary is known as the herb for remembrance) tied with a thread of red yarn (symbolizing the grief that brings us together).</p></div> Diocese of the West http://dowoca.org/news_171019_1.html St. Spiridon's Featured in Seattle Times http://dowoca.org/news_171018_1.html Wed, 18 Oct 2017 00:00:00 -0400 <p>St. Spiridon Cathedral in Seattle was recently featured in the Seattle Times in a story around the beautiful bells rung to summon people to worship. The parish is eager for&nbsp;a permanent church building. With a hope and a prayer, we are looking for donors with $5 to $500,000 to give! We have established a <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/build-an-orthodox-church-west-la">GoFundMe page</a> to allow donors to help in this project.<br /><br />Needless to say, I have a personal interest&nbsp;in this because my husband (Archpriest John Tomasi) is the rector and together, with family and friends, we have been here since the beginning. We started with one other family in 1995, when we rented a house that had a one-car garage, which we converted into a chapel. Soon, we moved into a home with a 2-car garage and suddenly our church capacity doubled! In 1999, we found a 1200 sq. ft. storefront wherein we set up a chapel, Orthodox bookstore, and small activity room. One year later, we were officially accepted into the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) and have been in the OCA Diocese of the West ever since. Now, 17 years later, we are in our third location and at times can handle 100+ worshippers, even though several may be spilling out into the hallways, dining area, kitchen, children's room, and bookstore.</div> <div class="share-btns-contain">&nbsp;</div></div> Diocese of the West http://dowoca.org/news_170830_2.html
