In the aftermath of generations of communism, the Orthodox Church in Serbia continues to grow, but faces the obstacles of outside non-Orthodox Christians coming into the country to proselytize Orthodox Christians away from their Mother Church. The Orthodox/Navigator Summer Mission aims to combat that by taking dedicated Orthodox Christians from outside to Serbia to witness to the Orthodox Faith and give support to our Orthodox brothers and sisters.
Sincere Orthodox faithful visiting from other ethnic communities and traditions are eagerly embraced and can quickly engage with people in deep, life-changing spiritual relationships. This is particularly true among Serbian teens and college-age people who, by far, are the most difficult to reach by the Church.
Team members will participate in informational training during the year leading up to the Summer Program. We will discuss cross-cultural ministry and how to relevantly share your own personal story of "Why are you a follower of Christ?" and "Why are you Orthodox?". The teams will include eight people from both Atlanta and Colorado.
The Orthodox/Navigator Team will live in Belgrade, Serbia from June 5-August 1, 2016. You will live with 2-3 other teammates in apartments. You will be riding local buses, shopping the local markets and cooking your own food (when you are not being stuffed full by your Serbian friends). Working with local priests and lay people, you will help lead evangelistic studies at the great Cathedral of St. Sava.
The cost for the summer program, including airfare, accommodations, food, local travel, and a History Course at the University of Belgrade will be approximately $4,000.00 per person. We will work together on raising the needed money doing fundraising projects and finding sponsors.
