Refreshment for the Brotherhood – Rocky Mountain Deanery Meeting

October 24-26, 2022 by Fr. David Morrison

Thirteen clergy gathering at Holy Theophany Orthodox Church (Dean, Archpriest Anthony Karbo) in Colorado Springs from along the Rocky Mountain stretch (Colorado to Montana).  Included from lower lands were our chancellor, Fr. Kirill Sokolov, and Hieromonk Nilus, our dean’s Father confessor, who shared significant insights with us on the “Priest as Intercessor”.  It was a gift to have both of them with us.

Thanks to God’s mercy and our dean’s thoughtful planning, we all were invited into deep experiences of prayer, fellowship, food (chef Fr. Damian Kuolt spoiled us all), and constant reminders of the crucial goodness of why we do what we do.  Included were times with local parish members, who came for the services we shared, and a great presentation on the “Sacred Alaska” film effort.

As a priest, I am grateful for these deanery gathering days.  Especially in light of the isolation and challenges of recent years, every moment was a breath of fresh air.  I hope that all clergy in our diocese can have similar experiences sometime soon.  See Fr Anthony for a good template!
