Pacific Central Deanery Meet at Holy Trinity Cathedral

Holy Trinity Cathedral, San Francisco, CA – March 17th, 2023

Clergy of the Pacific Central Deanery were invited to the Diocesan Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity in San Francisco on Friday for a special deanery event.

Diocesan Chancellor and Cathedral Dean, Archpriest Kirill Sokolov, served the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts, assisted by the Reverend Deacon Dr. Vitaly Permiakov, Professor of Liturgical Theology at St. Vladimir Seminary.

The clergy were invited to break bread together before being blessed to participate in a private question and answer session with Dn. Vitaly, who was in San Francisco at the invitation of His Eminence, Archbishop Benjamin and the cathedral community to lead the annual Lenten Retreat the next day. His talk, titled “Standing in the Temple of Thy Glory,” focused on liturgical theology found in the hymns of Great Lent and Holy Week, specifically in the anaphora of St. Basil the Great and the Canon of Great and Holy Thursday.

It was the first time meeting Dn. Vitaly for many of the clergy, and his knowledge and expertise on liturgical questions impressed many, even the senior and retired pastors.

Present were Archbishop Benjamin, Archpriests Kirill Sokolov, Lawrence Margitich, Ian MacKinnon, James Jorgenson, and Philip Halliwell, Priests Edward Henderson, Andrew Smith, Timothy Winegar, Gregory Matlak, and Augustine Lewton, and three sisters from the Holy Assumption Monastery in Calistoga, CA.

All left very edified. Glory to God for his many blessings toward us!
