The Monastery of St. Macarius the Great of Egypt was established in 2015 in Montclair, California under the omophorion of His Eminence Archbishop Benjamin of the Diocese of the West.
In 2019, they, along with two other monastic communities, purchased an 80-acre plot of land that will accommodate the three monasteries of St. Macarius the Great, St. John the Baptist, and St. Mary of Egypt, as well as a center for ministry directed especially towards young adults and teenagers in the form of retreats, sustained discipleship, outreach, and so on.
After over eight years of working ceaselessly to raise enough funds to build their first permanent residence in Casa Grande, Arizona, the nuns have finally broken ground in June 2023. In the few months left before the contractor’s teams leave the land, they are urgently raising funds to complete even the most basic aspects of the building, such as the floors, fixtures, and appliances.
Having begun as a community of seven in 2015 and in eight years increased to seventeen (and still expanding rapidly!) they have long outgrown their rented accommodation and are in great need to finally move to their promised land.
